Gilding
Gilding is the technique of applying thin sheets of gold and silver leaf to decorative objects, architectural details (crown moldings, mantelpieces, columns, doorways), and furniture. The gilded object can be left with a brilliant sheen or antiqued with glazes to a subtle glow.
Composition leaf has the identical look of real gold or silver without the expense, making this technique affordable to everyone. Sometimes a few subtle gilded accents are all that is necessary to transform a room. Gilded stenciled rosettes and medallions can add an old world elegance to a plain ceiling or wall. Ornate mirrors (even cast resin ones) look like heirloom pieces when leafed and antiqued. Cast resin statues become gleaming accent pieces and picture frames take on a new elegance.
